CAD Cleanup & Defeaturing for CHT

Video topic: what to simplify in a real CAD assembly before meshing a CHT case, and why it barely changes the answer but massively changes the cost.

Talking points:

  • What to strip — pin connectors, chip pins, serial numbers/imprints, small fillets, and small non-heat-emitting bodies; these add meshing complexity without materially affecting thermal results.
  • What NOT to touch — heat-emitting bodies and anything defining the actual flow path stay untouched; defeaturing is selective, not blanket simplification.
  • Inlet/outlet duct extensions — adding straight sections upstream/downstream of the domain of interest helps convergence and improves the validity of boundary-condition assumptions at the inlet/outlet faces.
